Vain Inc. Designer 101 With FUSSY!

Hey! Kylie here and I’m here to give “You” Vain Inc. Blog readers Another delicious scoop on an amazing store and designer! I had an exclusive interview with Fussy Designer Satomi masukami, and OH BABY…I got some good feedback. So Check out the exclusive interview only here on Vain Inc. Designer 101!

1) What is FUSSY to you?-vain Inc.

FUSSY is my baby, my leisure activity and my on going project.- Satomi masukami

2) What is your favorite sl designer & why?-vain inc

My favourite SL designer is Nikki Clayton - MINX. Not that I ever told her. Back in 2006 she was my inspiration and quite an influence towards my business.- Satomi masukami

3) How did your store Fussy get started? (planned or not..etc..)-vain inc

Like most women, I love shoes. I own loads, but I always crave more. Second Life in 2006 was pretty dry in the footwear department, and my natural need for more than Nikki's shoes drove towards a head start for FUSSY. I had the ideas, the sketches and the prim manipulation skill.- Satomi masukami

4) What advice would you give to a shoe maker like yourself?-vain inc

Hmm.. Use your imagination :) Other than that, it's vital to decide whether you're going the "High Street" way, or staying the way you are, and creating what YOU love.- Satomi masukami

FUSSY does not have resellers, affiliates, large networks and we are not following the current fashion feed to ensure we're up to date. Instead, we enjoy creating what we love to SEE and WEAR! Whether it is surprising, with a twist of fetish, or oldskool :). I feel that this makes us a unique brand.- Satomi masukami

5) whats up and coming for Fussy?-vain inc

We like to surprise, and always deliver a satisfactory product and service. We're currently working on several high heel sandals and cannot wait to finish off to introduce them to the public :))0 Satomi masukami

6) As a designer who is your inspiration? (sl designer or rl Designer..)-vain inc

I was visiting Paris ages ago, and I stumbled upon a very odd looking shoe store down at Champs Elyees. They had the most amazing designs, and the highest heels. The funny thing is, they did not have a designer/name attached to it. I studied them for ages! The unique quality and style blew my mind.- Satomi masukami

I tried locating the shop last time I was there, unfortunately it's long gone. I know it sounds crazy but this is my greatest inspiration, and I don't even have a name attached to it :)- Satomi masukami

7) How did Fussy get its name?-vain inc

We are fussy about high heels and by bringing you Fussy products, we're hoping you love them too! That says it all :)- Satomi masukami

8) If you had to do it all over again, what would you change about your store? (location, what shoe came out first, etc..)-vain inc

I wouldn't change a thing, except perhaps the building itself (the current main store is my first SL building! lol). - Satomi masukami

I am happy with the way we started, and progressed through the years. I still tell my friends that a shoe designer cannot call themselves a *REAL* shoe designer in SL if they have not produced quality prim products. Sculpties are great, and they do require great skills (outside of SL). However prim is how SL started, and it was a completely new skill to adapt to. in my eyes, designers who mastered prims are heroes in SL.- Satomi masukami

9) what is the hardest thing about being an sl designer and selling your products?-vain inc

I wouldn't say competition, because it is the customer who chooses their favourites. However backstabbing competition and Theft of Virtual goods are huge issues in SL. It is very difficult to get over the fact that instead of enjoying your products, people want to steal them for profit, or alternatively spread dishonest facts to try and damage the business. I mean, this is Second Life, what's up with some people? Why do they come on and bring in the dishonesty and hate with them?- Satomi masukami

10) And Last! Are there any seceret info about upcomming locations or new freebies, anything, you would like to tell us vain inc. magazine & blog readers??-vain inc

Our Body Shop will be sliced by 50% in the near future. ShhhhH!
Also, if we do go ahead and rebuild the main store, we will be considering a grand opening sale.- Satomi masukami

Thanks to Fussy for taking the time to sit down and have a great interview, its an awesome shoe store and many wishes to their upcomming future products, heres the Slurl link, and go check it out!!! And OMG my next interview on Vain Inc. Designer 101 is gonna blow your mind, wooo!

Wasted Youth IS OPEN!

Finally after tons of hard work and being on sl way to much this week hehe, i have opened my store*Wasted Youth*
It is a mix between London style and a vintage NY style, and the clothes feature multiple layers and sculpts. I did many designs in floral prints and you will find a mix of basic fabrics in neutral colors with bright or bold colors and floral prints.

I did some structured blazers and some basic tanks
most of the pieces are staple's because i believe style should be effortless!
I designed my collection for a woman who is already stylish. the clothes are all able to be mixed and matched to create a look that is your own!

I truly hope you all check out my new store and enjoy it!
thanks

Harry Potter Tees

In anticipation of the new Harry Potter movie that just hit theaters today, I made some tees yesterday for my group. The giftpack contains 4 grayish-colored cotton style tees with each of the 4 crests - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. They all have color coordinated bands on the sleeves, as well. Each tee comes in all layers for maximum efficiency!

These won't be available in store until late this year when I fully come back to SL from my vacation, so you can only get them in the group.

Search for lessthan3 in the groups tab, or stop by the mainstore and click the group sign. ♥

Paper Dolls Are Dressed To Kill

This week has been Very hectic!I have recently decided to Start my own collection,(i forgot how difficult but fun this is) and sadly haven't been able to do much blogging :(. But luckily i have found another great store to share with you called Paper.Doll. This store is very cute and i love it, One of my favorite things about P.D is their large variety of styles of clothing, often i find that stores in second stick to a specific theme of clothing ,but Zoey Gabardini(owner and designer of paper.doll) marches to the beat of her own drum, delivering us shoppers an eclectic assortment of beautiful fun clothes!

The first dress I'm wearing is the Paper Doll Purple Sequins Mini
The Second(my favorite!) is the Lace cocktail Dress
And the Last one is The Crochet Sundress

I suggest everyone stop by this store there is something for everyone.

Midnight Glam

So, I recently got this amazing black sculpted tank from Niniko and i had to share it with the blog! Its very well made and this store has great clothing.. One thing i admire about this designer is that the sculpts match up perfectly with the clothing, I did not see one odd line or glitchy mark.
Despite my recent colorful mood i was feeling dark today so i wanted to blog an all black outfit.
I Paired the baggy tank from Niniko with a skirt from one of my Gisaci dresses to create a short black dress!

Bag: Creamshop Madrid - Leather weave bag(black)

Hair: ETD Tasha - Espresso

Shoes: Maitreya SoHo Boots 'Black

Vain Inc. Fashion 101 With Paper.doll!

Hey! Kylie here and I’m here to give “You” Vain Inc. Blog readers Another yummy scoop on an amazing store and designer! I had an exclusive interview with Paper.doll Designer Zoey Gabardini, and wow…I got some good feedback. So Check out the exclusive interview only here on Vain Inc. Designer 101!

1) Paper.doll is one of my favorite stores in Sl..I’m curious, whats yours?-Vain Inc.

Great question! I LOOOVE Curio.. the new skins there just blow my mind! I'm also a huge fan of *COCO*.. her sculpted clothing attachments are by far the best I’ve seen. For shoes I’m a big UBU fan (Urban Bomb Unit), as well as J's.- Zoey Gabardini

2) What kind of style do you think your clothing is?-Vain Inc.

Well it definitely changes! I try to keep the items in my store trendy and shopper friendly, but a lot of times my creations depend on my current style mood.. which changes day to day! But on average I’d say my personal clothing style tends to be on the "bohemian chic" side!- Zoey Gabardini

3) Why did you choose this style? –Vain Inc.

This all started because I wanted to create clothing that I wasn't finding in other second life brands. Most stores I find just don't fit my style perfectly so I decided to learn how to make things on my own!
- Zoey Gabardini

4) How did Paper.doll get its name?-Vain Inc.

I am the queen of picking horrible names for things! My store began under the name "Stuff".. simply because I couldn't think of anything at the time. When I first opened I was making more accessories, belts.. that sort of thing.. but as I evolved and began to learn more, the name "Stuff" just didn't seem to fit the direction the brand was heading in. As a little girl I LOOVED playing with paper dolls.. and I guess for me I felt we are all our own personal paper dolls here in second life!- Zoey Gabardini

5) What does your business want to accomplish by next year [2010]?- Vain Inc.

Honestly, I just want to improve. I try to not set myself up for disappointment.. and I'm genuinely happy as long as I know I’m trying my best, and improving in my skills. I'm working on my second line of skins right now, so I guess my ultimate goal is to conquer the skin world, which isn't easy to do!- Zoey Gabardini

6) Lets say, someone who totally never heard of your store before, and you had one word to describe it and its fashion to that person..what would that one word be? –Vain Inc.
Versatile!- Zoey Gabardini

7) Whats your next best thing to come? [like clothing styles, etc..]-Vain Inc.

I'm currently making some really cute and casual t-shirt dresses! I have a few done, and I’m working on a few more. And as I said above I’m also slowly working on a second line of skins!- Zoey Gabardini

8) If you had to give a new designer some advice when it comes to opening a store, what would you say to that designer? [ like advertise more, or create this or that..etc..something you learned and has improved your business..]-Vain Inc.

You've got to just put yourself out there. At first I was scared and intimidated. The thought of criticism just really scared me off. So you just have to go into it with thick skin, and realize that its not possible for every single person to love what you do. It will never happen! Take the criticism with a grain of salt and a smile, because usually the person criticizing you has a valid point.- Zoey Gabardini

9) And Last! Can you tell us, Vain Inc. Readers, any special Paper. doll secrets that might happen over the summer? Like any new shops being added around the region/sim or free gifts coming soon? etc..?-Vain Inc.

Well.. I’ve redone my store a few times, but I can tell you that the sim is being redone as we speak! We are taking our time with this remodel because we really want to get it perfect! So, I have no clue when it will be ready! But it will be amazing! And by the end of the summer I hope to finish my new line of skins, which "fingers crossed" I'm hoping will turn out as amazing as I picture them in my head!
- Zoey Gabardini

Thanks so much to Paper.doll for this 101 interview, Only on Vain Inc.!

Creators Worst Nightmare

There is a certain joy in creating items for second life.

From the moment the idea is conceived, through the long hours of creating offline, to the final uploading and assembling the product, the creator works mostly alone or perhaps with the input one or two close friends or partners.

Then the creation becomes a product and there is reward in the response of the consumer.

But with most successful creations comes the almost inevitable crash of being copied and dumped full perm on the world. More and more often Xstreet is the dumping ground.

The creator can file for a DMCA takedown and Linden Labs is required to respond to the takedown request. But recently response is slower and slower, especially now that the Governance Team is busy with the Zindra Landswap.

It becomes more and more disheartening for creators as they see their products being sold full perm for days and sometimes even weeks on end. Every day that goes by means more DMCA, because LL does not remove the offending item from the database, but merely from the offending avatars inventory and from the inworld sales location and/or Xstreet marketplace.
The onus is on the creator to now go out and find all the copies that were sold and DMCA each and every one.
LL has the transaction history of all the sales of the item, but does not act on it. Nor does LL offer any help to the creator by giving them this information. Sometimes not all the locations listed were included by LL, so the creator has to revisit and check each report.

Another problem is that disposable alts are used to sell this stolen content, and as soon as the item has been deleted from one avatars inventory, there is a new alt putting up exactly the same content for sale, within hours in some cases.

If creators need to spend all their time tracking down and protecting their creations, where is the joy? Where is the energy left over to create more wonderful items?
The only reason copybotted items continue is because there is a market for them. If consumers refused to buy them, then eventually the demand would dry up. But if things continue in this vein, then new content will dry up and SL will be a barren world of copies of copies of stale old fashion.

DMCA process..
Be lucky enough to discover the theft, or have someone very kindly point it out.
Buy the item. No matter what the price and no matter the bitterness that comes with having to pay a thief, the product must be aquired to compare properly to the original.
Confirm the theft.
Write a DMCA including all known locations (SLURL) of all variations of the copies. Any locations missed will be ignored by LL, even though it is pretty simple for them to delete all inworld items of that name, owned by the offending avatar.
This can literally take a whole day, TPing from location to location, ARing each item, noting down the names and locations
and copying them into the DMCA notice.
Supply discription and location of the original item.
Add real name and contact info .. and then sign (or digitally insert a copy of your signature) and send by snail mail or fax.

the stress the waiting all adds up.

We all need to be aware!

Interview with Emery Customer- A Shoppers Critic.

Kylie Wulluf: so what do you enjoy about Emery and the products they sell?

Trinity Lisle: excellent stuff very retro 80's style of clothes but with modern twist to it

Kylie Wulluf: I agree, it’s very trendy and very fashion forward! Can you tell me what you think about the new additions added upstairs?

Trinity Lisle: hmm well i havent bought any of them yet…i like the styles but seems to be a lot of grey. Also she seems to be going away from the 80s look to a diff style all together.

Kylie Wulluf: Do you like the Change in the Clothing style? [Old Emery clothes to now]

Trinity Lisle: yeah its good as long as she doesn’t completely change and has a mix of the clothes styles so it appeals to all tastes

Kylie Wulluf: If you had to rate Emery between 1-10, what number would you give it for originality & style?

Trinity Lisle: id give it a 10, for its very unique style and I havent found many shops that are unique in how their outfits mix and match

Kylie Wulluf: Yes, Emery is very great at that!
Kylie Wulluf: You, as a shopper, what would you like to see in the future from Emery? [Like dresses, etc...]

Trinity Lisle: definitely dresses..Retro quirky styles staying on the same sort of style/era she has been doing would be great..And maybe loose style tops etc..

Kylie Wulluf: Okay thanks Trinity, have an awesome shopping experience and don’t forget to check out Vain Inc!
Trinity Lisle: i will thx

So now you have it! A great short but, great interview with an Emery Designer & What “YOU” the fans and shoppers out there, think about Emery and the products being made. Hope you enjoyed my first post on Vain Inc. Designer 101!

She Wore her City

As she fell to the ground she noticed a used newspaper and wrapped it around her waist as a skirt...
Noticing an old newsboy hat on top of a gutter she placed it over her now tangled golden locks.
Folded caution tape around her hips keeps her skirt up and add's color to her outfit.
